Old Lahaina Luau in Questions

Where can we buy the yellow and green print fabric worn by the Old Lahaina Luau staff? My wife wants to make our grandaughters outfits out of the same material worn by the staff of the Old Lahaina Luau on Maui. Where can we obtain the material if it is even available?
cruzer replied: "I tried looking in Google for pictures, but couldn’t find any.
Only see pics of the show. You may want to try calling the number to the on-line shop.

or email them:
I’m sure you can get someone to help you. Good luck!

nanigrl26 replied: "My sister works at the Old Lahaina Luau. The luau has a copyright over that print, so you can try searching Hawaiian print fabric shops online, but you won’t find anything exactly like that. I know, I like that print too."
Old Lahaina Luau OR Royal Lahaina Luau? Which one is the best? Which one is best? I hear a lot of good things about both, so I’m sure I can’t go wrong. What have you all experienced?
Or the Hyatt.
P.S.–These are all on Maui of course.
Last B replied: "I’ve been to OLL and I thought it was really, really good. Their grounds a re really pretty.
It would probably help you to read the TripAdvisor reviews for both:"
tripdiva replied: "I haven’t been to either one, but most travel agents recommend Old Lahaina, based upon their own experience and the comments of their clients (I’m also an agent and get a lot of reviews and info). Old Lahaina is definitely the preferred luau on Maui."
pookybear replied: "Old Lahaina has the best dancing. The buffet is good, too. I thought it was going to be small, but it is huge, and they pack a ton of people in there. It’s also the most expensive. I thought it was a little overrated, but I’m glad I went once.
I’ve never been to the Royal Lahaina, but I hear it’s good.
Usually we go to the Hyatt Luau. I think it’s the best value. The buffet is consistently good, the show is very nice, it’s big but not huge. It’s in a hotel (outdoors) in case you have kids and they need a break. They also interact with the audience which I think is nice.
If you want something romantic, The Feast at Lele is more intimate, and they continually bring you new dishes to sample while you watch the luau. It’s nice for couples."
Kuuipo Michelle replied: "OLL is okay…I don’t think it lived up to it’s Hype…the grounds are beautiful, there are alot of different Island customs featured not just Hawaiian (Tahitian,Somoan,Tongan etc…)dancing and food and dress of different Islands…the food was so-so…as far as The Royal Lahaina Luau I couldn’t say…I do know the best Public Luau I have ever attended was on The Big Island at the Waikoloa Marriott and that was just last week…everything was great…Food…Entertainment…Setting…the Drinks were not watered down as they are at alot of them…so if you are going to the Big Island I reccommend waiting and going to that one."
salsa replied: "The OLL is fantastic. The food is great and the kitchen is clean! Royal Lahaina is ok. Very small and you sit very close together. The food is just ok. Nothing to write home to."
How many people does the Royal Lahaina Lu’au seat? I’m considering the Old Lahaina Lu’au but I’ve read that they have 400 + people in attendance so I’d like a more intimate setting with a view of the beach. I’d like to know what the seating is like at the Royal Lahaina Luau and how many people are generally in attendance.
Does anyone know the name of the beautiful, haunting, song where every chorus ends with "Oh Hawai’i? I was at the Old Lahaina Luau the other day on vacation and I heard a beautiful, slow song that I *think* was by Israel Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. I had heard it before by an a capella group on my campus. I know it’s about the overdevelopment of Hawaiian lands, and at the end of either every chorus or verse he sings "Oh Hawai’i". If anyone knows it, please send. Thanks!
Kal replied: "The song is "Hawai’i 78" from Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s album Facing Future.
You can hear it here:

Want a GOOOD luau in Oahu—not impressed by setting of Royal Lahaina? Went to Royal Lahaina Luau in Maui, and while the show was good, in and of itself…the atmosphere, food, drinks and setting left much to be desired. We were crammed into a gravel slab (like an old worn down patio), and served watered down beverages and school cafeteria quality food. The show took place on a decent set (like I said, the performance itself was good), but I felt like we were sitting in a back alley of an old hotel.
I had imagined a luau out on a tropical, grassy lawn, with tiki’s burning brightly, and the ocean in the distance. Instead, we had to stand up and look around for the ocean, reminding ourselves that we are in Hawaii.
Now that I’m in Oahu- I want the ambiance and atmosphere of a tropical island paradise. Where do I go?
My expectations only come from travel channel previews of luaus on nice green lawns—do they really exist?
aloha.girl59 replied: "I don’t think you should expect truly good, authentic Hawaiian food at a luau. I’ve never had any unless it was at a local person’s house.
That being said, I have been to the luau at Paradise Cove (Ko Olina) twice and enjoyed it. The show is good, the location is beautiful, and there are fun things to do before the show (spear throwing, hukilau, henna tattoos, lauhala basket weaving, etc.). The food isn’t great and neither are the drinks but quite honestly, you’re really going for the show. If you want some good Hawaiian food, a commercial luau is NOT the place to get it! My advice would be to skip it altogether. You’ve already seen a luau and the Royal Lahaina is supposedly one of the best in the state. Unless you’re REALLY into hula, skip the big bucks luau and grab some local take out (Zippy’s, L&L, etc.) and watch one of the free hula shows in Waikiki."
Melissa S replied: "I highly recommend the Paradise Cove Luau on Oahu, the cost is reasonable, the food is great, the show is good. It is right on the shore with a nice little beach and you arrive just in time for sunset. There are fun activities before dinner including games/crafts and the removal of the pig from the Imu! We had a great time there and are going back next winter"
parlanchina replied: "I live in Hawaii and i have been to all Oahu luaus. I liked most Sea Life Park luau and i am sure you would like it too. I posted some images and comments about it on my blog. see here"
MaxBob replied: "I have attended the Paradise Cove luau and did enjoy the entertainment. Being a Hawaii resident for all of my life, I had expectations going to my first luau at Paradise Cove. But I knew that commercial luaus were created to give a general luau experience to their hundreds of guests on a nightly basis. Knowing that, I purged all preconceived thoughts of what I wanted to see and decided to absorb the luau atmosphere. The food was average as it had more palatable choices for mainland tastes, such as fried chicken–no hint of the traditional laulau, kulolo and pipikaula. I enjoyed Paradise Cove’s activities and the entertainment was very good. Showcasing the various tropical dances, hula and fire dancers kept the audience wanting more!
The link below shows other luau locations on Oahu. For entertainment, I recommend Paradise Cove. For authentic traditional luau, I believe the Ali’i luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center in the city of Laie on the north shore shall give you that luau feel. For a beach setting, the Luau on Waikiki Beach at the Sheraton Waikiki. There may be certain day or days that a particular location may have a luau–check the website below for details and links to each individual website.
It you want a truly authentic hawaiian meal minus the luau, I highly recommend Highway Inn in the city of Waipahu. Also Nancy’s Kitchen in Waipio, Ige’s Restaurant and 19th Puka in Aiea, and the Poi Bowl in the Makai Marketplace food court at Ala Moana Center. Aloha!"
soccerref replied: "Check out Paradise Luau or Germaine’s. I think you’ll be much happier with your experience.
Good luck!"
Tbrat replied: "When I went to Oahu 2 years ago for my birthday my best friend had mentioned going to a luai. She had been to Germaines luai before and thatst where we went.It was ok.THe food didnt impress me but I really enjoyed the show"
Which hula event is the best? Which one would you attend and why? Mohala Mai 2006 or KU MAI KA HULA / "Hula Appears" and or the Old Lahaina Luau on Maui in October. I am looking for the best to share with my daughter in traditional Hawaiian culture.
Jet replied: "Hula Hoop 2006"

chris w replied: "old lahaina luau is not a hula event its a luau but its still pretty cool!"
hawaiiboy replied: "Sad part about the Old Lahaina Luau, it is what the tourist want to see. Not much of it is traditional.
For me if you really want to see traditional Hawaiian Culture. Fly over to Oahu and visit the Polyianiasna Cultural Center
I have seen very tourist Luau in Hawaii. And only the PCC come any where close to being traditional.
For the Worlds Best Hula go to Hilo and see the Merrie Monarch Festival"
ssbn598 replied: "The Merrie Monarch Festival in Hilo on the island of Hawaii. It is the largest and most prestigious of all the hula competitions. Hula Halau’s from all over the world come to compete.
The 44th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival hula competition is scheduled for next year from April 12-14, 2007.
Hilo is a small city with limited hotel rooms. Book your hotel, rent-a-car and hotel NOW if you plan to attend. It will be impossible later. There is a link on the attached web site for tickets and further information. Again, book NOW.
Don’t forget your camera! Have a GREAT time!"
sweets replied: "I would contact a hula halau in hawaii and ask them –I don’t know enough about these to tell you myself"
We are going to Maui next week and want to know the "MUST DO’s" of the island.? We are doing the following:

And just explore the island!!! Hope u hav fun!!!"
Jen replied: "You have most of the must do’s on your list already! Make sure you try to catch the sunset every night – it’s gorgeous and it’s free! You also might consider driving up to the top of Haleakala on your own for the sunrise and then hiking around the crater a bit rather than biking down. I found it to be an incredible hike, and completely deserted since all the bikers left right after the sun came up.
I also suggest Warren and Anabelle’s dinner show in Lahaina.
I can’t recommend this show highly enough. Make reservations ahead of time, because it sells out.
I took surf lessons with the "Goofy Foot" surf school while in Maui, which turned out to be really fun.
Have a great time. I’m jealous!"
♥Esperanza♥ replied: "For a free day of snorkling from shore, pack a picnic and try mile marker 13 -14 and/or the black rock area. Lots of fish and occasional turtles. Enjoy!"
Dust Devil replied: "Go to the beach BUT BEWARE JELLYFISH SWARMS HAVE BEEN COMING IN!!!!!! You will just hear kids playing and sun, surf and souveniers so enjoy yourselves have a nice trip."
